Let’s make a keyboard shortcut that you can click in any active window that will pause your YouTube tutorial.

Step 1. Get the Chrome Extension

Add the Streamkeys chrome extension. download it here.

Click on the extension and go to settings.

In the settings page, click the ‘general’ section of the sidebar.

Configure Hotkeys

Once you’re in general settings, click the ‘configure hotkeys’ button. You’ll be taken to chrome settings.

Once you’re in the general section, scroll down to the Streamkeys section.

Choose Your Keyboard Shortcut

Next to ‘Toggle play/pause’, click on the field that says ‘Type a shortcut’.

Then enter your shortcut. I chose ‘option + p’ as my shortcut.

Then select ‘Global’ in the next field, this ensures that the shortcut will work even if chrome is not your active window.

Restart Chrome

Restart chrome and you’re good to go!
